Staircase

This is the 3d model I'm the most proud of. It's a reproduction of my old apartment's staircase. The model is very simple, and most of the time went into texturing and lighting it. The textures are either hand painted from scratch in Photoshop, or multi-layered procedural ones (the floor and the railing). The skylight shadow is coming from a "real" modeled skylight which couldn't fit into the frame, so I didn't bother texturing it. You can check out my tutorial on faking global illumination to see how the lighting was done.

Go-ban with beer and cigarettes

Although I don't like using the new-generation renderers (much too slow to be useful), you have to admit they can produce some very nice lighting. This scene was rendered with the test release of Brazil r/s (version 0.2.26). This engine did some very subtle shadow effects under the black and white stones. And I only worked for half an hour on the light, so it could be a lot better. This image took 24 minutes to render on a PIII 733/512.

Inner court in Rome

Another Brazil r/s render, this time of a back alley in Rome that I found pretty. The walls and wooden door are bitmaps, the rest – including the floor – is procedural. Rendering time was a little more than three hours.

Girl on a movie set

The image on the left is an attempt to create a CG version of the photograph on the right.

The background is a 3d model created from scratch. The woman is a Poser figure. The elements were composed in Photoshop and retouched. The two images above are two renders of the environment from different angles.

Brazil version

This is the same model, except it was rendered with Brazil r/s. Only ... [Read on]

Dessi’s mask

The mask is based on a hand-made one that I bought in Agostino Dessi's shop in Florence. Done with poly modeling, this was actually my first attempt at using this technique.

Girl on a window

The image on the left is an attempt to create a CG version of the photograph on the right.

It is a composite of different layers and techniques: The window and the shoe are a 3d model created from scratch (I'd forgotten Poser had shoes...) The background is also a 3d model. The woman is a Poser figure. All three elements were composed in Photoshop. The hair and the bottom of the dress were heavily retouched, since the Poser render was quite atrocious.

Gray figure

Continuing my first steps with Maya 3d animation software: a rather minimalistic figure of a woman.

Toy cow

First steps with Maya 3d animation software. This little cow was actually moving around nicely until I lost the Quicktime I made of it.

Alarm clock

A couple of 3d renders of a model of my alarm clock. Unfortunately I couldn't get an Energizer bitmap anywhere, so I added a cartoon pinup instead. The model was created with the old 3DS MAX smoothing modifier, Meshsmooth.
