Coffee

© 2007 Tal Zana

Now that you’re here
There is no fear
I see you close your eyes at night
And in the morning you are
Near me
So good to be
Waking up with you
Making you coffee
And thinking of all those years
We hid behind those tears
How I love you today
How I wish that you would not go away

Baby I know
All I need to know
And what you did when you were gone
Those sleepless moments are just
Lost time
They vanish when I’m
Waking up with you
Making you coffee
The day that I saw you pack
Her fingernail down my back
And a million more things
Fade away and disappear
When you’re here

And when you rise
Your eyes still look for me
You hold me and I see
That you don’t understand, girl
Why my mind wanders like it does
When I remember how it was
To be waking up alone
Drinking my coffee

Every time you smiled
I believe you saw me
Every time you cried
I believe you heard me
Every time you dreamed
I believe you woke me
Every time you fell
I believe you hurt me
Every time you smile

But every time I cried
I believe you cried, too
And every time I slipped
There was no one there to hold to
And every time I died
You were not an angel
And all this time alone
Waiting for my love

Daddy’s built a house for you
of chocolate, cream and candy, too
Mommy fixed you nice and clean
so you can be all hot and mean
There’s just one thing that you forget
my beloved Juliet
When will you grow up and stop
sucking on my lollipop?

The Whipped Cream and the Razor

© 2006 Tal Zana

He met her on a journey
to a lullaby
Her hair was trickling light and
twisted rhymes

July was tailing april
as though june didn’t care
He took his time and she did
too

Her face was like a worn-out
parade of dead desire
marching with a steady
beat

Her smile was like a razor
With whipped cream on the side
So happy she could kill some
time

He didn’t mind his own blood
as long as she was there and
made sure he wouldn’t pass out

Together they lived out their
torrential gale of pain
until her laugh extinguished
his

She said she couldn’t stand the
bloodstains anymore
and disappeared into the
night

He wandered like a scarecrow
who ran all out of whisky
through endless fields of sorrow

His tourniquet all loose now
he ran into a woman
who loved him like an angel

She tried to stop the bleeding
but he could only think of
the whipped cream and the razor
and you

Oh baby, how I love you

December

© 2006 Tal Zana

Winter chills your skin
Let me breathe through December with you
The snow on your pretty face
is like tears in a frozen embrace

All the birds have flown out of town
and the rain is so blue
Your hands are cold
and tomorrow in your eyes
I will see that September is gone

A frosty night with you
makes me wish May will never come
Just cry, don’t you say a word,
shiver slowly
like when I first saw you

In your old red shirt
You said my new skirt
made you dream of cherry

You gazed at the sun
Spring had just begun
Breathing you was sweeping me off my feet

And then we’ll go
We’ll go someplace red,
like Berlin

You know that’s what we should do

Winter chills your skin
Let me breathe through December with you
